Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, revealed that the Nigerian Democratic Congress and the African Democratic Congress could still form a political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
Kwankwaso made the remarks on Monday during a live appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he addressed ongoing political realignments and growing discussions surrounding opposition coalitions before the next presidential election.
The former Kano State governor spoke about his departure from the ADC and his growing political relationship with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. According to Kwankwaso, discussions between political groups remained fluid, adding that collaboration between the NDC and ADC had not been ruled out.
“The NDC and ADC may still work together before the election,” he said during the interview.

Kwankwaso also criticised the continued emphasis on religion and ethnicity in Nigerian politics, arguing that many younger Nigerians were becoming increasingly focused on competence and effective leadership rather than traditional political divisions.
He noted that while older generations often remained attached to ethnic and religious sentiments, younger voters appeared more interested in governance, economic reforms and accountability.
“There is a lot happening in this country, but older people don’t even understand,” Kwankwaso stated. “People are talking of religion and ethnicity. People are talking, especially those at our ages, but the younger people are looking for the right leadership for this country.”
Political observers believe recent conversations among opposition figures may signal early attempts to build a broad coalition capable of challenging the ruling establishment in 2027. With economic hardship, insecurity and governance concerns dominating national conversations, analysts said opposition parties were likely to intensify alliance talks over the coming months.
Kwankwaso’s comments are expected to fuel further speculation about possible partnerships involving key opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and other influential political figures seeking to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
