Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Saturday urged Nigerians to register as members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and also prepare to vote in future elections, saying broad public support is needed to build a new path for the country.
Kwankwaso said this on Saturday, May 9, during the party’s National Convention held in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where he addressed party members and supporters.
Speaking at the event, Kwankwaso said the party had continued to attract people from different parts of Nigeria since its formation, adding that many citizens now see the NDC as a platform for national change.
The movement, he maintained, started as an idea shared by committed Nigerians but has now grown into a strong force for national renewal.

He used the occasion to ask more Nigerians to formally identify with the party and take part in shaping the country’s political future.
“Lastly, we can only achieve that by continuing to mobilise to register with INEC to vote, and the NDC to belong to this noble cause. Please register, today,” he said.
Kwankwaso noted that Nigeria is passing through difficult times and needed focused leadership to move forward.
He said poor governance had left the country unprepared for major global changes, while ordinary citizens continued to face hardship.
Insecurity, he noted, has affected families across the country, displaced many people from their communities, and weakened public confidence in government.
He also said businesses were leaving, key infrastructure was being neglected, and the education sector was facing serious decline.
He, however, said Nigeria’s history shows that unity and political cooperation have always helped the nation overcome difficult moments.
He cited past political partnerships involving leaders such as Aminu Kano, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Shehu Shagari, and Alex Ekwueme as examples of national unity in action.
Kwankwaso also declared his support for the party’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, saying the move reflects fairness, balance, and respect for federal character.
He assured party members that the NDC would promote leadership free from ethnic bias and religious favouritism, adding that such leadership would help restore Nigeria’s dignity both at home and abroad.
