A former governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, has withdrawn from the 2027 race, citing the need to protect unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, announced his decision on Thursday in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
His withdrawal comes days after he obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest the Lagos governorship election under the APC platform.

He said the move followed fresh political developments within the party, including the endorsement of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, by party leaders.
He said, “Following the endorsement of Dr. Kadiri Hamzat by our Leader, the President of Nigeria, and leaders of our party in Lagos… I have decided to withdraw from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race.”
Adediran stressed that his decision was guided by party interest rather than personal ambition.
He added, “This decision is not borne out of weakness or a lack of capacity, but out of strength, discipline, and a deep respect for party cohesion and unity.”
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as the party’s national leader.
He said in his statement, “I remain a loyal and committed member of the APC… I also reaffirm my unalloyed loyalty and respect for the President.”
Adediran also declared his support for the party’s direction in Lagos. He established that “party supremacy and strategic alignment are critical” to sustaining progress.
He called on members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, a political group associated with his ambition, to remain calm and united.
He said further, “This is a moment to consolidate, not to divide; to build, not to fracture.”
Adediran thanked his supporters across the state, saying their loyalty and belief in his vision had been encouraging.
He added that his withdrawal does not signal the end of his political involvement, emphasising that he remains committed to the development of Lagos State and the growth of the APC.
He asserted, “Politics is a continuum. Today’s decision is part of a larger journey of service.”
The development is expected to reshape the internal dynamics of the APC in Lagos ahead of the 2027 governorship election, as party leaders continue consultations on the choice of candidate.
