Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has expressed strong confidence in the future of Afrobeats, dismissing concerns that the genre could lose relevance on the global stage.
He shared his views during a recent interview with Yaw on Wazobia FM Lagos. Speaking during the programme, the “African Queen” crooner maintained that Afrobeats remains vibrant and continues to evolve through the influence of emerging talents.

According to him, the steady rise of young artistes across Nigeria ensures that the genre will not decline. He described the new generation of musicians as the driving force behind Afrobeats’ continued growth and global appeal.
“Afrobeats can never die,” he said. “If you listen to some of the young Afrobeats artists now, you will agree with me that the genre is in safe hands.”
Furthermore, 2Baba highlighted the creativity and originality of younger artistes, noting that they bring fresh energy and unique styles to the music scene.
He explained that this diversity keeps the genre dynamic and relevant in an ever-changing global music landscape.
In addition, he pointed to a recent experience that reinforced his optimism. He revealed that an emerging artiste, Fola, remade his song If Love Is A Crime, a move he said impressed him.
“Recently, one of the young artists, Fola, remade my song ‘If Love Is A Crime.’ I really loved it. Soft, smooth vocals. It is amazing,” he said.
He added that the current crop of artistes possess distinctive flows and creative approaches that set them apart. According to him, their ability to innovate while staying rooted in African sounds strengthens the foundation of Afrobeats.
