A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Board of Trustees loyal to the disputed National Chairman, Senator Nafiu Bala, has branded the coalition led by former Senate President David Mark as an “illegal structure” sponsored by a rival leadership.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the factional BoT Secretary, Dr Rufus Ekenmi, accused certain individuals of “illegally sneaking” into the party under the guise of a coalition, thereby introducing what he termed a “spirit of insubordination.”
The faction directed Senator Bala to immediately activate the party’s disciplinary committee to sanction any ADC member found engaging with prominent politicians associated with the coalition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Abubakar Malami, Babachir Lawal, Emeka Ihedioha, and Liyel Imoke, among others.
Responding to his endorsement by the faction, Senator Bala pledged to uphold the ADC constitution and promised fair, objective leadership.
He accused members of the rival coalition of violating the party’s rules by operating from a parallel headquarters.
“I must state unequivocally that our party constitution unambiguously stipulates that only registered members in good standing are entitled to party privileges, including access to official premises,” Bala declared.
