The Nigeria U20 Falconets have been placed in Group F of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, setting up a challenging group stage against European powerhouse Spain, Asian side China, and debutants New Caledonia.
The draw took place on Thursday in Łódź, Poland, for the 12th edition of the tournament, scheduled to run from September 5 to 27, 2026. The Falconets will be looking to navigate a tough group as they aim for their first-ever title at the competition.
Nigeria have a proud history at the U-20 Women’s World Cup. They are one of Africa’s most successful teams at the age grade, having qualified for multiple editions and consistently flying the continent’s flag.

The Falconets reached the final in two previous tournaments finishing as runners-up in 2010 (lost to Germany) and 2014 (lost to Germany). These remain their best performances, though they have also recorded strong quarter-final and semi-final runs in other editions.
Despite never lifting the trophy, Nigeria have demonstrated resilience and pedigree, often producing talented players who go on to shine for the senior Super Falcons. In Poland, they will be determined to go one step further and claim the elusive gold medal.
The team booked their ticket to Poland after a tense two-legged qualifier against Malawi. Nigeria took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first leg but were pushed to the brink in the return fixture. Malawi’s Chinzimu scored twice, with her second goal in the 57th minute levelling the aggregate score. The Falconets, however, showed character to hold on and secure qualification.
With Spain expected to be the group favourites, the Falconets will rely on their traditional fighting spirit, tactical discipline, and youthful exuberance as they prepare for the September showdown.
