The Super Eagles of Nigeria have clinched the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), drawing praise from the Federal Government for a performance described as inspiring and worthy of national pride.
The third-place encounter was decided at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco, where more than 38,000 fans watched a tightly contested match that produced few clear chances during regulation time, as both sides struggled to dominate open play.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, applauded the Super Eagles for maintaining Nigeria’s rich football heritage throughout the tournament, noting their display of determination and character.

Idris also commended the coaches, technical crew and players for their commitment and sacrifices, stressing that the team overcame numerous challenges and consistently gave their all on the pitch.
Although the Super Eagles fell short of lifting the trophy, the minister emphasized that the bronze medal was earned with honour and belonged to every Nigerian who stood by the team throughout the tournament.
He encouraged the players to take pride in their accomplishment and remain focused on future challenges, assuring them of the nation’s appreciation and support.
“Congratulations, Super Eagles. Nigeria salutes and applauds you,” Idris said.
The match was ultimately decided by penalties, where goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali once again proved decisive. He made crucial saves to deny Egypt’s key players, including captain Mohamed Salah and forward Omar Marmoush, as Nigeria triumphed 4–2 in the shootout to secure third place.
