Veteran journalist, media entrepreneur, and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in his political journey.
Momodu made the declaration on Thursday, 15 January 2026, in Benin City, the Edo State capital, while addressing a gathering of supporters and party members.
The event, described as a homecoming, comes after he parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid ongoing internal challenges within the opposition ranks.

Speaking passionately at the occasion, Momodu emphasised that his move was driven by a desire to serve the interests of the people rather than seek personal political office.
He ruled out any ambition to contest for governor or senator in Edo State, his home region.
“And I came home for the first time and I coordinated everything, then it took me over 50 years, you won’t believe it, of excruciating hard work and meticulous planning to plant a home from my modest income in Iwe,” he said.
“So today, nobody can say Dele has no roots in Iwe. Today, I am standing before you, my friends, as I humbly reintegrate myself into the political process of my state.

“People have asked me, what do you want? Do you want to be a governor, a senator? No. I just want to promote the best interests of our people.”
The declaration aligns with broader efforts to build a formidable opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC positioning itself as a key platform to challenge the ruling party and rescue Nigeria from what some describe as one-party dominance.
Momodu, a prominent figure known for his media empire including Ovation International and his long-standing advocacy for good governance, described his entry into the ADC as a commitment to national renewal and grassroots development in Edo State.
