The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened an investigation into alleged misconduct during the AFCON 2025 quarter-final matches involving Cameroon vs Morocco and Algeria vs Nigeria.
In a statement released on Monday, CAF confirmed it has reviewed match officials’ reports and video footage indicating possible unacceptable behaviour by players, officials, and members of the media. The cases have been referred to CAF’s Disciplinary Board for further action.
The federation also disclosed it is examining an incident involving media personnel accused of misconduct in the mixed zone area.
Reaffirming its stance, CAF condemned any form of inappropriate behaviour, particularly actions directed at match officials or organisers, and stated that sanctions will be imposed on anyone found guilty.
Nigeria defeated Algeria 2-0 in Marrakech to reach the semifinals, but the match ended in disorder as Algerian players confronted referees, leading to scuffles on the pitch. The Algerian Football Federation has since filed a formal complaint, citing disputed refereeing decisions.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Cameroon was also overshadowed by controversy, with Cameroon protesting two penalty decisions they believed were wrongly denied.
