Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trip to Johannesburg, South Africa and Luanda, Angola, for the 20th summit of the G20 Leaders and the AU-EU summit, respectively.
The president’s aide, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this on Wednesday, stating that Tinubu” awaits further security briefings on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.”
Tinubu was scheduled to depart for South Africa today before heading to Angola.
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that the presidency had kept mute on the killing in Kwara that happened on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday, November 18, bandits attacked a parish of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the border-town of Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, on Tuesday evening, November 18, 2025. At least two people were killed and one injured in what authorities describe as a “barbaric” assault on worshippers and a frightening reminder of the growing insecurity that has gripped Nigeria’s border communities.
According to the police, the attack occurred at about 18:00 hours when gunshots erupted from the outskirts of the town. The DPO for Eruku, alongside police operatives and vigilante collaborators, responded swiftly, causing the hoodlums to flee into the bush.
“In response to the request by the governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of more security men to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, and directed the police to go after the bandits who attacked worshippers,” the presidency said.
Onanuga added that his principal had scheduled to depart Abuja to attend 20th G20 Summit of leaders in South Africa thereafter proceeding to Luanda to attend the 7th AU-EU Summit.
“Disturbed by the security breaches in Kebbi State and Monday’s attack by bandits against worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, President Tinubu decided to suspend his departure.”
He now awaits reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who paid a sympathetic visit to Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services regarding the attack in Kwara.
Tinubu reiterates his directive to the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls, abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home, safe.
Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Monday killed a Brigadier General, Musa Uba, following the ambush of a convoy of soldiers and operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Borno state.
The terrorists ambushed the troops on Friday at Damboa Road along Wajiroko in Borno when they were transporting some military equipment.
The ISWAP fighters reportedly opened fire on the military convoy along the road — an incident that led to a gun duel between the troops and the insurgents.
Also, bandits abducted 25 students in fresh Kebbi attack in the early hours of Monday November 17 approximately 4:00am, arriving on motorcycles in an apparently well-planned attack.
The kidnapped of the 25 students comes after over 11 years ago Boko Haram fighters abducted 276 girls from their school in the town of Chibok, Borno State.
