Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has stated that the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, is fully qualified to contest for any political office in Nigeria — including potentially challenging his father in the 2027 general elections.
Bwala made the remark during an interview on The Clarity Zone podcast, which aired on YouTube on Wednesday. He dismissed growing criticism suggesting that Seyi’s political visibility is purely a result of his father’s position as president.
“Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election,” Bwala said, adding, “If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor?”
The presidential aide argued that Seyi Tinubu has, over the years, built his own reputation, particularly among young Nigerians, and should not be viewed solely through the lens of nepotism.
According to Bwala, “Seyi is a bridge-builder among the youth. People who know him personally say he’s humble and unassuming, despite coming from a privileged background.”
He further urged Nigerians to evaluate Seyi based on his personal conduct and achievements, rather than inherited perceptions tied to the Tinubu name.
The comments come amid ongoing national debates about political dynasties, youth involvement in governance, and the growing presence of the president’s family members in public and private sector spaces.
While Seyi Tinubu has not publicly indicated any political ambitions, his increasing visibility at high-profile political and official events has fuelled speculation about a potential future in public office.
As the 2027 general elections gradually come into focus, Bwala’s remarks are likely to intensify conversations around succession, youth leadership, and the boundaries of family influence in Nigerian politics.
