Music executive and producer Don Jazzy has dismissed claims that Mavin Records favours certain artists on its roster while neglecting others in terms of promotion and opportunities.
Speaking during a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, the Mavin Records boss described the allegations as unrealistic, insisting that it would make no business sense for a label to intentionally sideline artists it has invested heavily in.

According to Don Jazzy, every artist signed to the label receives support, and any difference in visibility or frequency of releases often comes down to the artists’ personal decisions rather than bias from the company.
“We do see lots of comments that we do not prioritise some artists. But that isn’t true,” he said.
The veteran producer explained that a record label’s goal is to help its artists succeed because their success ultimately benefits both the company and the artists themselves.
“It’s like I would just carry my money and just throw it away, just lock it inside somewhere. We obviously invest in people to make us and themselves money,” he stated.
Don Jazzy further clarified that when some Mavin artists release fewer songs or appear less active publicly, it is often because the artists themselves choose to slow down or carefully manage their releases.
“If you see an artist in Mavin and the artist only releases one or two songs in a year, just know that it is the artist’s decision,” he explained.
He added that the label is always willing to support artists who are ready to put out more music.
“If the artist has one million songs and they want to release them, we can release them,” he said.
The music executive also attributed some of the concerns raised by fans and artists to psychological factors such as imposter syndrome and overthinking.
According to him, many artists sometimes become anxious or insecure, especially when comparing themselves with colleagues who may appear more successful or visible at certain periods.
“Most of them actually have imposter syndrome. It’s normal. We are all human beings, so sometimes they can panic and overthink things,” he said.
He maintained that there is no deliberate policy within Mavin Records to prioritise one artist above another.
“But there is no such thing as prioritising one artist over another,” Don Jazzy concluded.
Over the years, Mavin Records has become one of Nigeria’s most influential music labels, producing and nurturing several successful artists across Afrobeats, pop, R&B, and alternative music genres.
The label’s roster has featured stars such as Ayra Starr, Rema, Johnny Drille, and many others who have achieved both local and international recognition.
Despite its success, Mavin Records has occasionally faced criticism from fans who believe some artists receive more promotional support than others, especially when comparing chart performance and social media visibility.
Don Jazzy’s latest comments appear aimed at addressing those concerns directly while also shedding light on the emotional and mental pressures artists experience within the entertainment industry.
His remarks have since sparked online discussion, with some fans agreeing that artists often control the pace of their careers. In contrast, others argue that labels tend to focus more resources on commercially successful acts.
Still, many praised Don Jazzy for openly discussing issues like imposter syndrome and the mental struggles artists face behind the scenes.
