Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commissioned the newly completed Afon Township Road.
The milestone event yesterday, also served as a catalyst for further development, as the Governor issued an immediate directive for the total reconstruction of the long-neglected Olorunda–Imeko Road.
The decision to overhaul the Olorunda–Imeko axis followed a firsthand assessment by the governor, who described the road’s current state as “deplorable” after travelling the route earlier that day.

Wasting no time, Abiodun directed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to immediately finalise project estimates.
The proposal is expected to be presented to the State Executive Council and advertised for bidding without delay, ensuring that construction begins in the shortest possible timeframe.
The newly inaugurated Afon Township Road, which traces its origins to a 1959 project initiated by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, is expected to transform the region by boosting commerce through a reliable transport link for farmers and traders in Imeko-Afon and neighbouring communities.
It will also enhance mobility by significantly reducing travel time and minimising wear and tear on vehicles, while improving environmental safety through the installation of modern drainage systems to address the area’s long-standing flooding challenges.
Abiodun used the occasion to highlight his administration’s aggressive infrastructure drive, noting that over 1,600 kilometres of roads have been constructed across Ogun State in the last six and a half years.
He referenced the delivery of the 100-kilometre Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Obelle Road, a massive project executed with reinforced concrete to handle industrial-grade traffic.
“Our administration remains steadfast in responding to the needs of our people through performance,” Abiodun stated. “We will ensure that Yewaland and every part of Ogun State continue to receive their fair share of development as we build our future together.”
The project was met with widespread acclaim from local stakeholders.

The Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and the Obaladi of Afon, Oba Babatunde Rasheed, both lauded the governor for breaking the “jinx of neglect” in the region and fulfilling promises that previous administrations had abandoned.
The governor reaffirmed that these investments are not just about asphalt and concrete, but about opening up the state for global prosperity and improving the daily livelihoods of its citizens.
