The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State has experienced a significant surge in membership since Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, joined the party on 31 December.
Patrick Obianyo, the state chairman of the ADC, confirmed the massive influx during a reception event held yesterday at the home of Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly and former Chief Whip.
The ceremony welcomed Ezeudu and more than 200 of his supporters into the party in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

Obianyo stated that party officials have been overwhelmed by daily requests from politicians seeking to defect and be received into the ADC.
“Since Peter Obi joined us, there have been requests in our offices every day for us to visit and receive politicians into our party,” Obianyo said.
“We are here today in Ifitedunu to receive Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu. Tomorrow we will be in another location, and it has continued like that for over a month now.”
He urged new members to register at their ward levels for physical capture and recognition, even though online registration is available.
Obianyo acknowledged the rapid depletion of membership cards but reassured attendees that the party would soon conduct a membership revalidation exercise and introduce improved features on the cards.
“Even if the entire 200 million Nigerians join us, we will have enough cards for all,” he added.
Ezeudu expressed strong conviction in his decision to join the ADC, describing the day as his “own Pentecost” and a baptism for himself and his supporters.

He criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing Nigerians and emphasised the urgent need for change.
“I have never felt a stronger need to join a political party than my entry into the ADC today because it is very obvious that the APC has failed us, and we need to buckle up to save the country from finally being torpedoed,” Ezeudu said.
“I want to announce that we in the ADC are desperate to change Nigeria, and having taken time to study the configuration of the country, I can tell you that a new Nigeria is still possible.”
The event drew senior ADC figures, including the party’s deputy governorship candidate in last year’s election, Dr Ndubuisi Nwobu, as well as prominent chieftains such as Prof. Chinyere Okunna and Dr Chris Asoukwu.
