Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey have been selected in the official Team of the Tournament for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the tournament’s Best XI on Wednesday, recognising the standout performers of the competition.
Osimhen played a key role in Nigeria’s campaign, scoring four goals and recording two assists as the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal — their ninth third-place finish in AFCON history.
Lookman emerged as one of the tournament’s most influential attackers, finishing with the highest number of goal contributions. He netted four times and set up three goals, earning a place in the Team of the Tournament for the second AFCON in a row.
Bassey also impressed at the back, anchoring Nigeria’s defence with commanding displays. The 26-year-old was central to a backline that remained solid throughout the knockout stages, keeping clean sheets en route to the podium finish.
The CAF Best XI also features Senegal’s Sadio Mané, who was named Player of the Tournament, along with Morocco’s Brahim Díaz, the competition’s top scorer. Yassine Bounou (Bono) was selected as the best goalkeeper.
Completing the team are Idrissa Gueye, Pape Gueye, Achraf Hakimi, Moussa Niakhaté and Noussair Mazraoui.
Senegal clinched the AFCON 2025 title after edging hosts Morocco 1-0 in extra time in a tense final, while Nigeria claimed third place following a penalty shootout victory over Egypt.
