The Ogun State Government has launched a public appeal for personal photographs, historical documents, and artefacts to help tell the authentic story of the state’s 50-year journey.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade announced the initiative on Monday.
Akinmade said it aims to move beyond official government records to capture the true story of the state—one that lives in the private albums and memories of its citizens.

Since its creation in 1976 from the old Western State, Ogun has evolved into Nigeria’s industrial powerhouse.
However, the government believes that the milestones of the last five decades are best reflected through the eyes of the people who lived them.
Akinmade said the government is looking for early photos of markets, schools, towns, and public infrastructure, footage or photos of traditional festivals and community life and archives showing how everyday life has changed across generations.
Others are newspaper cuttings or memorabilia linked to major political and economic events and current high-quality photos and videos celebrating the state.
He assured contributors that all materials will be handled with professional care.
Original items will be documented, credited to the owners, and promptly returned after digital archiving.
Akinmade noted that selected contributions may be featured in several ways and could appear in golden jubilee Exhibitions, which are pop-up galleries held across the state.
He also said contributions may also be included in state documentaries, offering cinematic retellings of the “Gateway Story.”
Additionally, Akinmade said they could be showcased in Commemorative Publications, such as coffee-table books and digital archives.
Citizens, families, and institutions are encouraged to submit their materials through the following channels.
For physical submissions, hard copies should be delivered to the Ministry of Information at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
For digital submissions, high-resolution scans or files can be sent via email to [email protected]
“This Golden Jubilee is not just a celebration of years,” Akinmade stated, “but a celebration of our shared heritage, collective sacrifice, and enduring progress.”
