Fuji star Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere and his media manager were attacked on Friday during a burial ceremony in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The incident, which happened on 21 November 2025, led to injuries, loss of money, and a police report.
The media manager, Ayonla Obesere Althentic, issued a statement on Saturday confirming the attack. He said the team had concluded their performance at the Government Field in Okitipupa when groups of touts suddenly surrounded the venue.

The attackers targeted the manager because he held the bag containing money received during the performance.
According to him, the team was already preparing to leave when the trouble started. He said he noticed several groups of touts moving toward the exit. One group, he added, headed straight to him. They demanded the bag of money and refused to let the team leave in peace.
He explained that when he refused to hand over the bag, the confrontation turned violent. The attackers beat him and tried to seize the bag by force.
He said his shoulder became dislocated during the struggle. He also reported that one of the attackers struck him with a knife as he attempted to enter the car.
He could not confirm whether he suffered a stab wound, but he said he sustained several blows and remained in serious pain.
The attackers succeeded in overpowering him and escaped with the bag of money. While this was happening, another group confronted Obesere himself.
The media manager said the Fuji singer tried to calm the youths by giving them money, but they ignored his efforts. Some continued to push and rough-handle him.
Ayonla said he later managed to guide the musician into the vehicle so they could escape the scene. They left in a hurry to protect themselves and seek medical help.
He condemned the attack and described it as a criminal act that had no place at a burial ceremony. He noted that burial events were supposed to be peaceful moments for families and guests, not scenes of violence.
The team reported the case to the Okitipupa Police Division soon after leaving the venue. In the statement, the media manager called on security agencies to act quickly.
He urged the authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack. He also appealed to local officials to introduce better security measures at public gatherings, especially events that attract large crowds.
The statement further appealed to fans, event organisers, and the general public. It urged them to avoid violence and show respect for performers, their teams, and mourners. According to him, performers should be able to work without fear of intimidation or physical assault.
Ayonla also expressed gratitude to the people who helped them during the incident. He thanked some of the mourners and security personnel who rushed in to offer support and assisted them as they left the venue. He also noted that medical workers attended to his injuries shortly after they reached safety.
The team promised to provide more updates when necessary. They encouraged anyone who had information about the attackers to contact them or reach out to the police.
The statement ended with a reassurance that the musician was safe. However, the attack raised fresh concerns about the growing trend of violence at entertainment events and social gatherings across the country.
The incident in Okitipupa added to those concerns and renewed calls for better security planning at public events. For now, fans of the Fuji star hoped that both Obesere and his media manager would recover quickly from the traumatic experience.
