The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reinforced internal communication, ethical conduct, and leadership capacity among its workforce with a two-day induction retreat for the newly inaugurated Executives of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC).
The retreat, running from Monday, November 17 to 18 at NECA House, Ikeja, Lagos, brought together the new National JCC Executives, State Representatives from the Southern Region, and Management Representatives to align the committee with the Commission’s strategic vision.

Delivering the opening address, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Lagos State, Ayobami Salami, underscored the critical role of the JCC.
He described it as a structured and unified platform that allows staff to constructively engage with management, express concerns, and contribute ideas.
Salami assured participants of Management’s continued support for staff welfare through improved workplace relationships and capacity building.
He reminded members, however, that the JCC is a consultative body and not a union, stressing that its operations must be grounded in neutrality, professionalism, and integrity.
JCC President, Vera Awoh-Akujobi, reiterated the importance of the retreat in strengthening the committee’s operational foundation.
She noted that the sessions were designed to deepen the executives’ understanding of the JCC’s roles, enhance teamwork, and equip them with essential communication and leadership skills.

The Administrative Secretary, Oluyemi Titilayo, hailed the retreat as a timely and essential exercise following the recent inauguration of the new executives.
She urged members to maintain unity, uphold the consultative mandate, and demonstrate professionalism, noting that the initiative aims to improve communication flow and enhance the collective problem-solving capacity of the Commission.
The programme features technical sessions, leadership modules, and group exercises as part of INEC’s continuous effort to build a motivated and ethically grounded workforce nationwide.
