Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has declared his ministry’s core mission is to implement welfarist policies aimed at uplifting vulnerable Nigerians and those at the bottom of the pyramid economically.
Speaking at the Wusal Wurum 2025 held in Jos, Plateau State capital on Sunday, Dr Doro emphasised that his appointment reflects President Bola Tinubu recognising the inherent compassion of the Plateau man and woman, which he believed flows from the region naturally.
The minister assured his audience that the ministry will discharge its responsibility “clearly, independently, with impartiality” and with “humanity” as its watchword.

He stated that while the ministry serves the entire nation, he intends to prioritise his home region. “We’ll have to make sure that the Plateau benefits”, Doro noted.
“I mean, before we go elsewhere, we make sure that the Plateau is taken care of first, and then we’ll look after the rest of the country. I don’t tell them that I say this but that is going to be the bias.”

Dr Doro expressed his desire to collaborate with the Biron Nation to ensure a peaceful and prosperous state for every Plateau citizen, and by extension, all Nigerian citizens, as the government works to lift them out of poverty.
Present at the event was the Berom tribe of Plateau State, led by the Gbong Gwom Jos, the paramount ruler and Chairman of the Jos Traditional Leaders’ Council.
Although the Gbong Gwom Jos was unavoidably absent, he was well represented by subordinate traditional rulers from various districts across the three to four local government areas in Plateau State.
The Berom people constitute the largest ethnic group among the more than 54 tribes in Plateau State.
Also in attendance were friends, associates, and well-wishers of Dr Doro.
Background
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that Tinubu swore in Doro on Thursday at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Dr Doro became the third person to head the ministry under Tinubu’s administration.
Betta Edu served as the first minister but was dismissed by the President following a nationwide outcry over an alleged ₦585 million scandal.
She was succeeded by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who later vacated the position after his appointment as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
