The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Aderemi Oseni, has vowed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State during the 2027 general elections.
Representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Oseni expressed strong confidence in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, attributing the party’s optimism to lessons learnt from the 2023 governorship defeat and a recent by-election loss.
“Already, we have learnt our lessons. We have also gone to the drawing board in preparation for the general election,” Oseni stated.
He emphasised that the APC’s strategy for 2027 would differ markedly, with members collectively committed to repositioning the party.
“It has become our collective responsibility to work out how we can bring the Oyo APC back on track,” he added, highlighting efforts to forge a united front against the ruling PDP.
Regarding his own ambitions, the lawmaker described himself as “not overly ambitious” but open to higher roles in service to Oyo.
He revealed that his support group, the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends, with over 200,000 members, has initiated grassroots mobilisation to bolster the APC ahead of the polls.
“That is my own way of helping to reposition APC in the state,” he noted.
An engineer by profession, Oseni entered politics to serve the people rather than for personal benefit.
He stressed that success in 2027 hinges on selecting the best candidates for executive and legislative positions, coupled with strategic consultations on zoning the governorship ticket.
Oseni pointed out the historical dominance of Ibadan in the Oyo South Senatorial District, which has produced most governors, marginalising Oyo Central and North.
“Why is Ibadan always against zoning the governorship office to Oyo Central or Oyo North? Honestly, this is one of the questions people have been asking,” he remarked.
The lawmaker called on Oyo elders to facilitate an equitable rotation of the governorship among Ibarapa, Ibadan, and Oke-Ogun zones, promoting fairness across the three senatorial districts.
Oseni’s remarks signal a renewed vigour within Oyo APC, as the party aims to capitalise on internal reforms to challenge the PDP’s hold on power in the Southwest state.
