Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed strong support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, stating that he willingly stepped down his own ambition to uphold party unity and strategic balance.
Speaking to journalists yesterday, Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, confirmed he was actively involved in the discussions and decisions that led to the zoning arrangement.
“I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it – from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery,” he said.
The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) recently met in Ibadan, Oyo State, where it was resolved to maintain the existing zoning formula for party offices and to zone the presidential ticket specifically to the South-South region.

Mohammed emphasised the importance of collective interest over personal ambition, stating: “Politics is not about personal interest, it’s about self-actualisation within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development.”
He called for mutual respect and understanding among party members, noting that “everything is predicated on sacrifice, not interest,” and added that true leadership involves recognising that “power comes from God.”
Reiterating the PDP’s commitment to inclusivity and national progress, the governor assured that the party’s leadership, including its National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT), remains dedicated to fostering unity and political opportunity across the country.
“We are always available as governors, NWC, BoT to work towards making sure that PDP is a darling of Nigerians,” he said, adding that the party will ensure “everyone has the political space to actualise their aspirations.”
