Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has expressed bewilderment over Peter Obi’s involvement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as puzzling given Obi’s past ties with the PDP.
Obi was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election and is now a leading figure in a newly formed coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, George urged those who have left the PDP to reconsider and return to the party, arguing that unity is crucial to increase their chances of defeating the incumbent president.
“We were in crisis for quite a while because of the issue of who will sign to INEC but we’ve been able to resolve that… you see the situation in Nigeria now, those who are jumping ship I wish them the best of luck, but people that matter are the electorate,” he said.

George emphasised his confidence in the PDP’s ability to succeed in the upcoming election. “The voice of the people is the voice of God. I have no qualms in my mind about PDP not being able to do it,” he added.
He criticised defectors for abandoning the party that nurtured them.
“Those people who are there [in the ADC], they benefited from this party. Do you disown your father’s house? What are you looking for if not for personal reasons? Self-centredness, selfishness… And when I saw Obi there, I was wondering what he was doing there.”
George appealed for reconciliation and collective effort within the opposition, stating, “Which of them had not been part of PDP? I wish them well but I’m advising them, come back let’s work together. You want to kick Bola out in 2027 and you want to divide the house.”
The coalition includes other prominent figures such as former Senate President David Mark, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, among others.
