Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has challenged the public perception that actors in the Nigerian movie industry are extremely wealthy, saying many stars are struggling financially despite their fame and visibility.
Shine Rosman made the revelation while speaking during a recent podcast hosted by fellow actor Baaj Adebule, where she discussed common misconceptions surrounding celebrities in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

According to the actress, one of the biggest misunderstandings people have about Nollywood stars is the belief that appearing on television automatically translates to financial success.
“The most overrated misconception about Nollywood stars is that we have money,” she said during the conversation.
Shine Rosman explained that while some actors may appear glamorous on social media or at public events, the reality behind the scenes is often very different.
“I don’t know why people assume we have money,” she added.
The actress disclosed that only a fraction of movie stars are financially comfortable, and many of those individuals earn most of their income from businesses and side ventures outside acting.
“Some of us do have money, but from other ventures,” she explained.
Rosman stressed that acting alone does not guarantee financial stability for many performers in the Nigerian film industry, despite Nollywood being one of the largest movie industries in the world.
“But many of us are struggling financially,” she stated.
Her comments have sparked conversations online about the realities of celebrity life and the economic challenges faced by entertainers in Nigeria.
Over the years, several actors, musicians, and media personalities have opened up about the gap between public perception and their actual financial situation.
Many entertainers have explained that fame often comes with pressure to maintain luxurious appearances, even when earnings are inconsistent.
In Nollywood especially, actors frequently rely on endorsement deals, personal businesses, event appearances, social media influencing, and entrepreneurship to supplement their income.
Rosman’s remarks also highlight ongoing discussions about compensation and welfare within the Nigerian film industry, where many actors have complained about irregular payments, low budgets, and the rising cost of movie production.
Despite Nollywood’s global recognition and growing international audience, several industry stakeholders have argued that many actors still do not earn enough from acting roles alone to sustain lavish lifestyles.
The actress’s statement has drawn mixed reactions from fans on social media, with some expressing sympathy for actors navigating financial difficulties, while others said the entertainment industry often creates unrealistic impressions of wealth and success.
Shine Rosman is known for her appearances in various Nollywood productions and has continued to build her profile within the Nigerian movie industry.
