The Anambra State House of Assembly has begun the process of screening a new set of commissioner nominees following their submission by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
During plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker, Somtochukwu Nkem Udeze, formally received the list and referred all 18 nominees to the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters for further action.
The nominees cover key ministries across the state’s administrative structure. Those listed for possible appointments include Dr Ben Chuks Odoemena for Agriculture and Mr Chukwukadibia Okoye for Budget and Economic Planning.

Others are Mr Udoji Amedu for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, and Dr Ekene Ogugua for Education. Dr Clem Aguiyi was nominated for Environment, while Mr Izuchukwu Okafor is to oversee Finance.
In the health sector, Dr Afam Obidike is on the list. Dr Law Mefor is nominated for Information and Value Reformation, while Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke is to serve as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
Also named is Professor Offornze Amucheazi for Lands, Barrister Vin Ezeaka for Local Government and Community Affairs, and Professor Charles Ofoegbu for Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The list further includes Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engineer Casmir Agummadu for Power, and Architect Okey Ezeobi for Works and Infrastructure.
Honourable Eddy Ibuzo is nominated for Transport, Mrs Esther Onyekesi for Women Affairs and Social Development, and Mr Patrick Agha for Youth Development and Sports.
The referral to the screening committee marks the next stage in the confirmation process, where the nominees are expected to be assessed based on their qualifications and suitability for office.
The outcome of the screening will determine whether they are cleared to join the state executive council.
