The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, May 4, 2026 began a fresh plan to rebuild its leadership after a Supreme Court ruling removed its National Working Committee, with the party’s Board of Trustees stepping in to take control and guide the next steps.
The Board of Trustees Chairman, Adolphus Wabara spoke at the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting, saying that the action followed the court judgement delivered on April 30, 2026.
The ruling cancelled the 2025 national convention that produced the party’s former leadership and also voided another disputed convention held in March.

Wabara says BoT has taken over leadership of PDP
Wabara said the Board of Trustees took over to prevent a leadership gap. He described the moment as a test for the party, adding that the PDP has the strength to survive difficult times.
He thanked members and leaders of the party for trusting the board to lead at this time. He also praised the former committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki for their service, noting that they showed loyalty and commitment during the crisis.
Wabara said the party’s problems were not only internal. He claimed that some suspended members worked against the party with support from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He also maintained that these actions included court cases and illegal party activities aimed at weakening the PDP.
Despite this, he said many Nigerians are still looking up to the party.
In his words, “The hope of millions of Nigerians lies in the return of the PDP to power in 2027.”
To move forward, the party has started wide consultations with its leaders and stakeholders.
It has also informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about its meeting and next steps.
One major issue at the meeting is the plan to appoint an Interim National Working Committee.
This new team will manage the party’s affairs for now. Wabara said the names of those to serve will be presented for approval and later sent to INEC.
He advised party members to put aside personal interests and work together. He also told those who may be appointed to be ready to make sacrifices and rebuild unity in the party.
“The task before them is enormous,” he said, urging them to act with fairness and honesty.
The PDP says it is ready to stabilise its structure and prepare for the 2027 general elections.
