The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday has revealed a plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to organise a public protest in Abuja on Thursday, April 2, aimed at forcing action against David Mark.
In a statement shared on Facebook by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the alleged protest followed what it described as a failed attempt to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking actions against the party.
Abdullahi said the party received information that the planned protest would be sponsored by “a particularly notorious minister” and would involve a crowd presented as aggrieved members.
He stated that the protest was designed to demand that “David Mark must go,” in order to create public pressure on INEC.
The statement read:
“The plan is simple: a paid crowd, posturing as aggrieved party members, will take to the streets demanding ‘David Mark Must Go’. This, they hope, will create public pressure on the INEC Chairman to recognise an individual who has resigned and no longer belongs to our party.”
The ADC claimed that the move was part of an effort by the ruling party to interfere in its leadership and weaken its position as an opposition party.
Abdullahi noted that the situation had become more serious in recent days.
He added, “The plan by the ruling APC government to hijack the leadership of the ADC is real. It has assumed a new level of desperation.”
The party said it would remain calm and law-abiding but would resist any unlawful action.
It also called on President Bola Tinubu to act if those involved were linked to his administration.
Abdullahi said, “ADC remains focused on its duty to Nigerians and . . . will resist by all lawful means.”
