Davido said he had reached a point of fulfilment in his career after years of global success. He highlighted his extensive international performances, including sold-out shows in major arenas across the world.
In addition, he pointed to his recognition on the global stage, noting that he received multiple Grammy Award nominations over the past three years.
According to him, these milestones marked a significant phase in his journey and gave him a sense of satisfaction.
As a result, he said he now intends to shift his focus and reconnect with his musical roots.
Furthermore, Davido explained that his upcoming projects would reflect a stronger African identity.
He noted that while he had previously explored sounds that appeal to Western audiences, his current goal is to embrace a more authentic style.
“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena,” he said. “I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it, so I am not really looking to do Western sounds.”
His statement signalled a deliberate move toward originality and cultural expression. It also reflected a broader trend among African artists who are increasingly prioritising local sounds while still enjoying global recognition.
In addition, Davido spoke about the strong support he continues to receive from fans outside Nigeria, particularly in South Africa. He claimed that a large percentage of the country’s population is familiar with his music and appreciates his work.
“Eighty per cent of the citizens of South Africa know me and love my music,” he said.
Over the years, Davido has built a solid fan base in South Africa. He has also collaborated with several artists from the country, further strengthening his presence in the region. These partnerships have contributed to his influence across the African music scene.
Moreover, the singer has earned multiple certifications in South Africa, underscoring his commercial success and popularity there. His cross-border collaborations and performances have played a key role in expanding Afrobeats beyond Nigeria.
Overall, Davido’s remarks highlighted both reflection and reinvention. While he acknowledged his past achievements, he also made it clear that he is focused on evolving his sound in a way that stays true to his identity.
As fans anticipate his upcoming releases, his commitment to authentic African music is expected to shape the next chapter of his career and further solidify his position as one of the continent’s leading artists.
