The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Seyi Makinde over the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike spoke on Monday during a national working committee (NWC) meeting of a PDP faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The exchange follows recent tensions between rival factions of the party after a court nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025, which produced Kabiru Turaki.
On Sunday, Makinde, aligned with the Turaki faction, had accused those working with Wike of indirectly backing Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We need Nigerians to judge. If you can be in their camp, where they promised to support the president, so be it. We are not begrudging them. You can support whoever you like to support. But go to them if you want to support them. That is our position,” Makinde said.
“They have the government behind them. They have the judiciary behind them. They have INEC behind them. But we have the people behind us.”
Responding, Wike dismissed Makinde’s stance, saying the Oyo governor had initiated a political battle he could not sustain.
“A fight you can’t fight, don’t start it,” Wike said.
Meanwhile, Mohammed said the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 would go ahead as planned, despite what he described as attempts by Makinde’s faction to disrupt the process.
He expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to remain a strong opposition force, urging members to stay united and disciplined ahead of the convention.
