The advisory, shared on the mission’s official platform, clarified that the process applies to all travellers, regardless of visa type or location.
According to the mission, “All visa applicants, no matter the visa type and where they are located, are continuously vetted.”
It explained that the checks begin from the point of application and continue through the decision stage and throughout the validity of the visa.
The statement said, “Security vetting runs from the time of each application, through adjudication of the visa, and afterwards during the validity period of every issued visa, to ensure the individual remains eligible to travel to the United States.”

The mission established that the screening system is designed to review an applicant’s background, including security risks and compliance with immigration rules.
The latest message serves as a caution to Nigerian travellers that visa approval does not guarantee entry into the United States if new concerns arise after issuance.
Officials stressed the need for applicants to maintain clean records and comply with all regulations, as eligibility is constantly reassessed.
The development comes during an increased global focus on travel security, with authorities tightening checks to prevent risks linked to crime and terrorism.
For prospective travellers, the message is simply that approval is only one step, while compliance remains a continuous requirement.
