The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 42 personnel across Enugu State to provide security for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The spokesperson for the NSCDC Enugu State Command, Pamela Chukwu, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Enugu. She explained that the deployment was part of efforts to guarantee a smooth, secure and hitch-free examination process across the state.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the 2026 UTME is scheduled to hold nationwide from 16 April to 25 April, with each candidate expected to sit for approximately two hours. In Enugu State, 21 approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres have been designated to host the exercise.
Chukwu noted that, to ensure effective coverage, two NSCDC officers have been stationed at each CBT centre, while additional mobile monitoring teams have been deployed across the seven area commands in the state. The arrangement, she said, is designed to provide both static and rapid-response security throughout the examination period.
She further revealed that the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Elijah Willie, had directed officers to maintain a high level of professionalism, vigilance and integrity while on duty. As part of supervisory measures, the commandant is expected to carry out unscheduled visits to various examination centres to assess operational effectiveness and issue immediate directives where necessary.
“The deployment is aimed at ensuring adequate security presence at all CBT centres, preventing examination malpractice, unauthorised access, maintaining law and order, as well as safeguarding candidates, officials and facilities,” Chukwu stated.
She reiterated the corps’ commitment to a coordinated and proactive security operation, emphasising that all personnel involved are expected to uphold strict discipline throughout the exercise.
The UTME remains a critical examination for prospective tertiary institution candidates in Nigeria, and authorities have continued to prioritise security and transparency in its conduct.
