Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has announced he is taking an indefinite break from making music, telling fans not to expect new releases anytime soon.
The singer made the revelation during a recent livestream with content creator Davrel, where he explained that he is currently on a musical sabbatical and feels no pressure to release fresh songs to maintain his relevance in the industry.

According to Davido, his existing catalogue remains highly influential and continues to dominate clubs and playlists across the country and beyond.
“Stop asking me when I am dropping new music. I am on a musical break,” he said during the livestream.
The award-winning singer further argued that his impact on Afrobeats remains strong even without new releases, noting that many of his songs are still heavily played at social gatherings and entertainment venues.
“Like I said if you go to the club right now, 10 out of 20 songs are mine. So I am on a musical break,” he added.
Davido’s statement comes after years of consistent musical output and international success.
Over the last decade, the singer has established himself as one of the leading global faces of Afrobeats, delivering multiple hit songs, albums, and collaborations with both African and international artists.
Known for tracks such as Fall, Unavailable, and If, the singer has built a loyal fanbase that extends far beyond Nigeria.
His energetic performances, social media presence, and collaborations with international stars have helped cement his status as one of the continent’s most successful music exports.
While Davido did not specify how long the break would last, his comments suggest he intends to step away from the pressure of constant music releases temporarily.
The announcement has already sparked mixed reactions among fans online, with some expressing disappointment while others supported his decision to rest and recharge creatively.
Breaks from music are not uncommon among major artists, especially after years of intense touring, recording, and public attention.
In recent years, several global musicians have taken sabbaticals to focus on personal growth, family, or mental well-being before returning with new projects.
Despite stepping back from music production for now, Davido remains active in entertainment conversations and public appearances.
During the same livestream, the singer also spoke about the growing celebrity boxing scene in Nigeria, describing it as a positive development for the entertainment industry.
“I am actually impressed by the celebrity boxing tournament. It is a welcome development,” he stated.
Celebrity boxing has recently gained popularity in Nigeria, with entertainers, influencers, and social media personalities participating in exhibition fights that attract widespread online attention.
The latest major event in the trend involved comedian and streamer Carter Efe defeating controversial singer Portable to become the reigning celebrity boxing champion.
The bout generated massive reactions online after Carter Efe outclassed Portable in the ring through a unanimous decision.
Before the fight, Portable had boasted about extending his winning streak following previous victories over actor Charles Okocha and rapper Speed Darlington.
However, after losing the match, Portable accused several colleagues in the music industry of lacking support for him.
He alleged that many people in the industry secretly dislike him and were happy to see him defeated.
Davido’s endorsement of the celebrity boxing movement adds further visibility to the growing trend, which many see as a new avenue for entertainment, fan engagement, and social media buzz.
Although fans may be disappointed about the absence of new music from Davido for now, his confidence in the enduring popularity of his catalogue reflects the level of success he has achieved in the industry.
For the moment, the singer appears focused on enjoying the fruits of his previous work while taking time away from the demands of constant music production.
