All victims abducted from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Lokoja, Kogi State, have been rescued after a joint security operation led by troops of the Nigerian Army, the Kogi State Government said on Wednesday.
The government disclosed that the remaining victims were rescued in the early hours of May 6 during a coordinated operation around the Agbaja Forest axis in Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the operation led to the rescue of five boys, two girls and two adult females.

The victims were said to have been evacuated to a military medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment and medical attention.
The state government said troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army carried out the rescue mission in collaboration with other security agencies after sustained search-and-rescue efforts.
Governor Ahmed Ododo commended the security operatives involved in the operation, praising what he described as their courage, professionalism, and commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also acknowledged the resilience shown by the victims and their families during the period of captivity.
The government said, “This successful operation underscores our determination to ensure that criminal elements have no foothold in Kogi State.
“We will continue to strengthen our security architecture, deepen intelligence gathering, and provide the necessary support for our security agencies to act swiftly and decisively.”
The governor further expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for supporting efforts aimed at maintaining security and stability in the state.
The Kogi State Government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on kidnapping and violent crimes, urging residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.
Authorities also assured that efforts were ongoing to track down and prosecute those behind the abduction.
The incident had triggered concern among residents after gunmen reportedly invaded the orphanage in Lokoja and abducted several occupants, prompting a large-scale rescue operation by security agencies.
