New Daily Prime reports that the victims were abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School (Esiele) on May 15, 2026.
According to reports, a total of 39 students and seven teachers were taken away by the attackers, while two teachers were allegedly killed during the crisis.
The development has triggered nationwide concern, with citizens, civil society groups, religious organisations and public figures demanding swift intervention from security agencies and the government.
Among those who have spoken out is Nigerian singer Victony, who used his social media platform to call on President Bola Tinubu to address the worsening security situation and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victims.
In a post shared on his X account, the singer expressed concern over the growing threat posed by insecurity, particularly to children.
“Save our children & Put an end to this mess @officialABAT,” he wrote.
His message quickly gained attention online, with many Nigerians echoing his concerns and urging authorities to intensify rescue efforts.
Afrobeats superstar Davido also reacted emotionally to reports about the victims’ continued ordeal in captivity.
The award-winning singer said he was deeply saddened by the incident and expressed sympathy for the abducted victims and their families.
Reacting via his Snapchat page, Davido lamented the state of insecurity in the country and called for divine intervention.
“I’m weak. God pls take control. We can’t continue like this… my heart goes out to the victims and family .. this is messed up,” he wrote.
The singer’s comments resonated with many of his followers, who described the situation as a tragic reminder of the security challenges affecting several communities across Nigeria.
Veteran musician Timaya also added his voice to the growing concern, releasing a statement that urged the Federal Government to take more decisive action against insecurity.
According to the statement, there is an urgent need for stronger collaboration among security agencies and stakeholders to tackle the escalating threat posed by criminal groups operating in different parts of the country.
“We appeal to the Government for even greater urgency, collaboration, and action in addressing the growing security challenges facing many parts of our country,” the statement read in part.
The reactions from the musicians have added momentum to calls for immediate intervention as families of the victims continue to await positive news regarding the fate of their loved ones.
The abduction has reignited conversations about the safety of schools across Nigeria, particularly in rural communities where security infrastructure is often limited.
Over the years, schools in different parts of the country have been targeted by armed groups seeking ransom payments, creating fear among parents, students and education stakeholders.
Security analysts have repeatedly warned that attacks on schools not only endanger lives but also threaten educational development by discouraging school attendance and disrupting learning activities.
Human rights advocates have also stressed that children should never become victims of criminal activities and have urged authorities to prioritise their protection.
As public pressure mounts, many Nigerians continue to demand swift action to secure the release of the kidnapped pupils and teachers while ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
For now, concern remains high among families, residents and well-wishers, with many hoping that ongoing efforts by security agencies will lead to the safe rescue of all those still being held captive.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges, especially as they affect vulnerable groups such as schoolchildren and educators.
