In an official statement, Liverpool’s ownership expressed profound gratitude for Slot’s success and leadership:
“This was a difficult decision for us to make as a club. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC has been significant, meaningful, and most importantly successful. Our appreciation for his achievements could not be greater, particularly as his tenure was underpinned by a work ethic, diligence, and expertise that further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field.
From the moment we encountered Arne, it was clear that he embraces responsibility. This was evident when he guided us to the Premier League title and navigated the considerable challenges of the season just ended. While we have collectively concluded that a change is necessary for the club to keep moving forward, this does not diminish the work Arne has done or the respect we hold for him.
He will always hold a special place in history as the coach who delivered our 20th league title. Furthermore, his compassion and humanity while guiding the club through the difficult period following the loss of Diogo said a great deal about him as a person. Arne leaves with our gratitude, a Premier League title to his name, and the knowledge that he will always be welcomed back at Anfield.”
Before his time at Anfield, Slot established himself as one of Europe’s most promising tacticians. He notably revitalized Feyenoord, leading them to the Eredivisie title in 2023 their first in six years and an inaugural Europa Conference League final in 2022. Prior to his success in Rotterdam, he impressed at AZ Alkmaar, where he implemented an attractive, high-pressing style that solidified his reputation as a progressive coach.
