The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has moved to invalidate a wave of purported primary election results circulating on social media, claiming that no official outcome of its nationwide primaries has been released and warning the public against treating any unofficial figures as authentic.
The party’s intervention comes at a period intensifying speculation over the outcome of its May 28 and 29 primaries, a process that has generated intense interest ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC maintained that the authority to announce the results rests exclusively with the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), which has yet to conclude deliberations on the exercise.

Declaring the circulating results invalid, Director stated that the public should disregard any figures, lists, or claims being shared online as the outcome of the primaries.
He emphasised that the results remain with the NEC and have not been formally released through the party’s established channels.
The clarification suggests that internal processes surrounding the primaries are still ongoing, despite widespread reports and claims on social media purporting to identify winners in various contests.
While the statement did not explain how the unofficial results emerged or whether the party intends to investigate their source, the decision to publicly distance itself from the circulating figures points to concerns over misinformation and the potential impact on the credibility of the party’s internal electoral process.
Director disclosed that a crucial NEC meeting has now been scheduled in Abuja to consider matters arising from the primaries and determine the next steps.
According to him, the meeting was convened on the directive of the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
He announced that NEC members have been directed to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC session on June 2, while the substantive NEC meeting is expected to be held on June 3.
The party further indicated that Nigerians and other stakeholders would only receive the official outcome of the primaries after the NEC completes its work and the list of candidates is prepared for submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Stating the party’s position, Director said the public would be informed of the results when the names of candidates chosen to fly the party’s flag are transmitted to INEC.
The development places the spotlight on the NDC’s internal decision-making process at a time when attention is increasingly shifting towards political alignments and candidate selection ahead of the next general election.
Although the statement offered no indication that the primaries were disputed or compromised, the unusual need to publicly reject circulating results underscores the growing influence of social media in shaping political narratives before official announcements are made.
Right now, the party’s message is straightforward: the primaries may have been conducted, but the official verdict remains locked within the NEC, and any result outside that process has no standing in the eyes of the NDC.
