As they concluded their campaign against Moroccan side RS Berkane on Saturday, Rivers United head coach Finidi George reflected on his team’s disappointing CAF Champions League run following a 4-1 home defeat to Egyptian side Pyramids FC.
The 2021/22 Nigerian champions finished bottom of their group, earning just one point from five matches four losses, one draw, scoring 2 goals and conceding 10.
George admitted that while his team started strongly in the first half, controlling the game and even scoring a goal, they struggled to maintain intensity after the break.
“In the first half we did well. We controlled the game and pressed higher. After the break, we struggled to keep up they were faster, and it became difficult to contain them,” he explained.

He praised Pyramids’ quality, calling them “very good” and noting their dominance in the final 45 minutes.
Looking ahead, George emphasised learning from this experience and focusing on domestic success. “We know our weaknesses now. Winning the NPFL will give us time to strengthen the squad and prepare better for continental football,” he said.
Sitting at the bottom of Group A,Rivers United just took one point from a possible 15, a goalless draw with Zambian side, Power Dynamos on Matchday 3.
