Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has revealed plans to return to school to further his education.
The “Zazu” crooner, known for his street-style music and outspoken personality, said his decision stemmed from a genuine desire to gain a deeper understanding of the business side of the entertainment industry.
Despite already earning an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) from Kwara State Polytechnic, Portable said he realized that more education was necessary to help him manage his growing music career.

In his words, “Even though I already have an OND from Kwara State Polytechnic, I still want to further my education so I can understand my music royalties and business deals better, especially for my record label, Zeh Nation.”
According to the singer, his aim is to build a stronger foundation for his career by acquiring knowledge that will allow him to make informed business decisions.
He emphasised that success in music goes beyond talent, as many artists lose control of their careers due to a poor understanding of contracts, royalties, and financial management.
Portable said that education would help him take charge of his music empire and ensure it was managed effectively.
He added that he did not want to depend entirely on others to handle important business decisions concerning his brand.
“I want to be in control of my business. I want to understand the numbers, the paperwork, and how the money moves,” he reportedly said.
The street-pop star also mentioned that his record label, Zeh Nation, has grown rapidly since he started it, and he now oversees several young artists.
For him, education will help him run the label professionally, making it one of the top independent record labels in the country.
“I have people under me now. I’m not just an artist; I’m a boss. I need to know how to manage my artists and the business properly,” he added.
Portable, who rose to fame in 2021 with his viral hit song Zazu Zeh featuring Olamide and Poco Lee, has built a reputation for his unfiltered opinions and raw street energy.
Over the years, he has often made headlines for his controversial statements and social media outbursts.
However, his latest announcement reflects a new side of him, one that is focused on personal growth and professional development.
Industry observers say Portable’s decision to return to school shows maturity and a deeper understanding of the long-term nature of the music business. Many Nigerian artists, they noted, struggle with financial mismanagement and unfair contracts because they lack proper business education.
If Portable follows through on his plans, he would join a growing list of Nigerian entertainers who have chosen to pursue education after achieving fame.
Artists such as Falz, Banky W, and Brymo have all spoken publicly about the importance of education in managing their creative and business careers.
Portable has yet to disclose which institution he plans to attend or when his studies will begin, but he assured fans that education will not stop him from making music.
“I’m still going to make hits. School no go stop my hustle,” he said with a laugh.
As the self-acclaimed Wahala Musician continues to dominate headlines, his plan to pursue higher education may mark the start of a new chapter, focused on growth, stability, and a deeper understanding of the music industry he has fought so hard to conquer.
