Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have pledged to wrest control from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 governorship election.
The commitment was made during the launch of a book titled A Life of Principle: The Olayide Moshood Abas Story, authored by Akeem Abas, a News Agency of Nigeria reporter, in honour of his father, Pharmacist Olayide Abas, the APC state chairman.
The event, coinciding with Abas’ 76th birthday, drew prominent party figures, including Senator Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South), Hon. Aderemi Oseni (Ido/Ibarapa East), Oyo Central senatorial aspirant Wasiu Ademola, and gubernatorial aspirant Barrister Akeem Agbaje.
Other attendees included Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, APC Publicity Secretary Wasiu Olawale, Idris Lapade, Architect Hassan Giwa, Yemi Aderibigbe, Senator Kola Balogun, and Ogun State NUJ Chairman Ademola Babalola.
The party, which lost the governorship to PDP’s Seyi Makinde in 2019 and 2023, is intensifying efforts to reclaim Agodi Government House.
Senator Alli dismissed claims of internal discord, stating, “There is no problem in Oyo State APC. By the grace of God, APC is coming to take over Oyo State in 2027.
The president had said it yesterday.” Agbaje echoed.
Once we are united, we will always defeat the PDP.” Both leaders emphasised unity and grassroots mobilisation as critical to victory.
