A prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Ajiboye, has expressed scepticism about Peter Obi’s capacity to govern Nigeria more effectively than President Bola Tinubu.
During an appearance on the television program “Politics Today”, Ajiboye contended that Obi’s performance as governor of Anambra State does not justify his presidential ambitions.
He stated that even a million individuals with Obi’s credentials could not outperform Tinubu.

Ajiboye challenged that Obi’s tenure in Anambra was a success, arguing that the former governor’s record does not support the public’s perception of his capabilities.
“What miracle will he perform in government? What miracle was he able to perform in Anambra? Bring the records. How can you say he was successful in Anambra? He wasn’t,” Ajiboye stated.
He also questioned Obi’s qualifications for the presidency, noting his background as a bank chairman and asking what qualities qualify him to lead the country.
He defended Tinubu’s administration, highlighting that the removal of the petrol subsidy and the floating of the naira were difficult but necessary measures to prevent the nation’s economic collapse.
He framed these decisions as a re-evaluation of the country’s economic direction, which was essential for long-term progress.
Ajiboye argued that Nigeria’s economy was not productive enough to sustain the subsidies and that the alternative was a complete economic crash.
He further suggested that opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai are “unwilling to face the reality” of the country’s economic state.
Ajiboye pointed to Tinubu’s achievements as governor of Lagos as evidence that he is better suited to lead Nigeria.
He maintained that Tinubu’s administration and its reforms have “taken Nigeria from the dungeon.”
Meanwhile, Ob, 64, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to his presidential aspirations.
Obi, who is part of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition, recently stated that he would only need a single four-year term to provide effective governance.

He emphasised that the coalition aims to produce a president with the “capacity and compassion to save this country.”
The coalition includes other political heavyweights such as Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and former governors Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai.
