The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress has formally waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, clearing him to participate in the party’s upcoming primary elections without the need to appear before a screening committee.
In a press statement issued today from the APC National Secretariat at Buhari House, 40 Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja, the party announced that the decision was reached at its 188th NWC meeting held on 6 May 2026.

The statement explained that the waiver was granted pursuant to the powers conferred on the NWC under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, which allow the committee to organise and supervise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances in the best interest of the party.
According to the APC, President Tinubu has received overwhelming endorsement and a vote of confidence from critical stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the leadership and members of the National Assembly, and other organs of the party at the APC National Summit of 22 May 2025 and subsequent major statutory events.
The NWC noted that as the incumbent President and leader of the party, Tinubu had already been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.

Requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be “redundant and unnecessary.”
The party emphasised that the waiver demonstrates the high level of unity and consensus within the APC around President Tinubu’s leadership.
The statement was signed by Felix Morka, CON, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC.
This development is widely seen as a strong indication that President Tinubu remains the undisputed choice of the ruling party as it prepares for future electoral contests.
