Nigeria’s women’s basketball team has been rewarded with houses, cash bonuses, and national honours after successfully defending their title at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.
The rewards were approved by Bola Tinubu on August 4, 2025, in recognition of the team’s achievement. Each player was awarded $100,000, while members of the 11-person coaching and technical crew received $50,000 each.
In addition to the financial incentives, every team member was allocated a three-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate. Both players and officials were also conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.
The housing documents were presented in Lyon, France, by National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade.
Players who received the housing allocation include Amy Okonkwo, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpannah, Elizabeth Balogun, Sarah Ogoke, Ifunanya Okoro, Promise Amukamara, Murjanatu Musa, Blessing Ejiofor, Ezinne Kalu, Victoria Macaulay, and Nicole Enabosi.

Vera Ojenuwa, who was part of the championship-winning squad, was absent from the ceremony after being replaced in the current tournament squad by Rita Igbokwe. She is expected to receive her rewards at a later date.
Members of the coaching staff honoured include head coach Rena Wakama, alongside assistants Wani Muganguzi and Prince Ezeala.
Wakama expressed appreciation to the sports authorities for their continued support and voiced confidence in the team’s future, noting that the celebration marks only the beginning of more success.
“The DG and the NSC Chairman, thank you for your courageous efforts to continue to help us move forward. We are happy and excited. I know the celebration will continue tonight, but this is not the end,” she said.
The ceremony took place as the African champions continue their qualification campaign for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Lyon, where they are set to face Germany in their final game.
