Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) now controls 31 states through its governors, adding that more governors are expected to defect to the party in the coming months.
Okpebholo made the statement on Wednesday during the official reception of defectors to the APC in Benin City, the Edo State capital. The event was organised to welcome politicians and supporters who recently joined the ruling party.
Addressing party members and supporters at the gathering, the governor expressed appreciation to the people of Edo State for what he described as their unity and continued support for the APC.
“Let me start by thanking Edo people for the unity that is binding us together and making us one party,” Okpebholo said.
He also praised Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his support for the state and the party, pledging loyalty to the administration ahead of future elections.
“We now have 31 governors in the All Progressives Congress, APC, and I want to tell you that more governors are still coming to join us,” the governor said.
Okpebholo further assured party leaders that Edo State would strongly support the President in the next general election.
“He’s been so good to us and we promise to deliver Edo State to him come the 2027 general elections,” he added.
