The Nigerian Army says its troops have overrun major bandit camps in Bauchi State, capturing family members of alleged terrorist and destroying key logistics in a fresh offensive.
In a statement issued on Wednesday on its official X account, the Army said troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade, working with the Office of the National Security Adviser team, carried out a clearance operation in Dajin Madam Forest. It described the mission as part of “ongoing clearance operations against bandit elements.”
According to the statement, the troops “successfully cleared several bandit camps, including the notorious Azuge and Hari camps,” a move it said has further disrupted criminal activities in the area.
The Army added that its troops “neutralised a number of bandits, while several others fled under sustained military pressure.” It also confirmed that “bandits’ family members comprising 6 women and 13 children were taken into custody.”

To weaken the group’s movement, the troops destroyed motorcycles used by the bandits. The Army said this action would limit their operational capacity.
Items recovered during the raid, according to the statement, included “one AK-47 magazine, packs of tramadol drugs, a pair of police uniform, several military uniforms and 2 horses.” It noted that the items suggest “criminal activities and attempts at impersonation.”
The Army said its troops are now holding their position in the forest “to consolidate on the gains achieved and prevent any re-infiltration by fleeing bandits.”

In a related operation, troops moved to Mainamaji following recent air strikes on bandit hideouts. The Army said the mission “recorded no contact,” and that this shows that “sustained military pressure has significantly degraded the presence and movement of bandits within the area.”
It maintained that the success of the operations reflects “the effectiveness of ongoing military offensives and the increasing dislocation of bandit networks.”
The statement concluded with the Army’s reaffirmation of its commitment to the fight.
It said, “The Army remains resolute in sustaining pressure on all criminal elements until lasting peace and security are restored.”
It also urged the public to support security agencies with “timely and credible information.”
