Following the dismissal of Arne Slot, Liverpool Football Club has officially appointed Andoni Iraola as the new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The 43-year-old arrives at Anfield after three impressive campaigns in the Premier League with AFC Bournemouth. Most notably, he led the Cherries to European qualification for the first time in their history, securing a sixth-placed finish in the league last month.

Upon his appointment, Iraola has expressed his profound excitement in a statement on the club’s website:
“Really excited, really excited. Because obviously, you know about Liverpool; you know that it’s a big club, a massive club—one of the biggest in the world. But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club. You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool. But obviously, the atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top-level players, and the chance to fight for titles I think it cannot be more attractive than this. It’s difficult to find it. So, [I am] really excited to start.”
Iraola launched his coaching career in 2018 at AEK Larnaca, where he successfully guided the team to victory in the Cypriot Super Cup. Subsequently, he managed Spanish second-division side Mirandes before making a high-profile switch to Rayo Vallecano in 2020. During his tenure there, he orchestrated the club’s promotion to La Liga within his first term.
Three years later, the Premier League came calling, and Iraola accepted the challenge at Bournemouth. He finished the latter half of the 2025-26 season on a remarkable 18-game unbeaten run, which ultimately sealed the club’s historic sixth-place finish.
