A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Buba Galadima, has spoken against intimidation at the party’s national convention, saying members must remain firm despite pressure from the ruling government.
Galadima made the remarks while addressing party members at the convention on Tuesday.
He alleged that the government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had tried to weaken opposition parties in the country.
He said that several parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Labour Party, and the ADC, have faced pressure.
“We have seen that the APC and its government has tried to destroy the PDP, the SDP, the NNPP, the Labour Party and indeed the ADC,” Galadima said.
He told party members that they must not give in to fear or threats.
He urged them to stay strong and defend their political space.

Galadima used a strong example to express his confidence in the opposition’s chances in the next general election.
“Even if there is no living human being in Nigeria and we bring a corpse in a coffin and put him against President Tinubu, I assure you that that corpse will win the elections in 2027,” he said.
He said that any form of intimidation should be resisted and mentioned that courage and unity are the only ways to overcome pressure from those in power.
“So any attempt to intimidate or to frustrate us, we must stand and say no. It is only our no and our resilience, our boldness and our courage that will deliver us.”
Galadima’s statements suggested that those in government are powerful but insisted that citizens and opposition groups still have a voice.
He called on party members to remain brave, not weak.
Galadima’s speech addressed concerns about political pressure and the state of opposition politics in Nigeria.
His comments touch on the ongoing tension between the ruling party and opposition groups ahead of the 2027 elections.
