The Lagos State Government has signed fresh power purchase agreements to secure steady electricity supply for key public facilities over the next decade.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu witnessed the signing ceremony involving Mainland Power Limited, Fenchurch Power Limited, and Viathan Engineering Limited.
The agreements are aimed at ensuring stable and reliable power for major state assets, including hospitals, government offices, and water facilities.

A major highlight of the deal is the revival of the Akute Independent Power Plant. The facility, which had been inactive for about five years, is now set for full rehabilitation and upgrade under a new operational plan. Officials said the project will restore electricity to nearby communities and support the expanded Adiyan Water Works.
Under the agreement with Mainland Power Limited, the Ikeja GRA power plant will continue to supply electricity to critical infrastructure such as LASUTH and other strategic installations. The renewed deal guarantees power supply from the plant for another 10 years.
On the Island, Viathan Engineering will manage power supply through its Lekki and Marina plants. These facilities currently provide electricity to key locations, including the Lagos State Government House, the Deputy Governor’s residence, and major hospitals such as Lagos Island General Hospital and Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.
The plants also serve commercial centres and other important public institutions across the Island.
Officials said the agreements build on long-standing partnerships between the state and private power firms. They added that the move is part of broader efforts to improve energy reliability and support economic activities in Lagos.
The government noted that stable power supply remains critical to service delivery, especially in health, water, and public administration sectors.
With the new agreements in place, authorities expressed confidence that residents and public institutions will benefit from improved electricity over the coming years.
