In two separate press statements issued from its National Secretariat in Abuja, the ruling party also vehemently condemned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for allegedly inciting violence.

The Labour Party (LP) was accused of being “subverted” by the “nomadic disposition” of its 2023 candidate, Mr Peter Obi, whom it claimed swings between parties in search of an uncontested ticket.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) was similarly criticised as a “stillborn” coalition strangled by opposition figures who refuse to build their parties but instead engage in a “revolving door” politics.
The APC asserted that a party “so grossly unable to manage its own internal affairs cannot be entrusted with the governance of Africa’s most populous and important country.”
It rejected any expectation that it would assist opposition leaders in resolving their internal crises, insisting it would focus on organising and mobilising for the 2027 general elections.
The party further dismissed opposition attacks as “fear mongering built on false narratives” and “gangster antics,” while defending Nigeria’s democratic space as robust with nearly two dozen registered parties.

It described threats of violence by the opposition as “primitive capitulation” and an “admission of incompetence,” predicting a “fantastic rebuke” from voters in 2027.
In a separate statement dated April 26, 2026, the APC condemned Governor Makinde’s remarks at an opposition summit in Ibadan on April 25, where he reportedly invoked the “bloody history” of Operation Wetie to criticise what he called Nigeria’s descent into a one-party state.
The APC labelled the comments as reckless incitement and a threat to national security, noting that as a sitting governor and chief security officer of his state, Makinde’s actions were particularly disturbing.
The party called on security and intelligence agencies to take the matter seriously and safeguard lives and property. It reminded Makinde that constitutional immunity does not extend to threats against national security and declared him “unworthy of the high office” he occupies.
The APC reiterated its commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding the rule of law, and delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda for the peace, unity, and prosperity of all Nigerians.
