National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has described the recent wave of violent attacks across parts of Nigeria as evidence of a breakdown in governance.
In a post on his X account on Saturday, Abdullahi pointed to attacks in Kwara, Katsina and other states, saying they demonstrate a failure of government to protect citizens.
He referenced a 2014 comment by President Bola Tinubu, made when he was governor of Lagos, in which Tinubu wrote that “the festering Boko Haram attacks on the North East and massacre of innocent citizens is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
That statement has resurfaced in recent weeks as insecurity worsens across the country, with critics of the current administration using it to question the government’s handling of security challenges.
Echoing Tinubu’s earlier words, Abdullahi wrote: “The festering insecurity and violent attacks in Kwara, Katsina and other parts of the country, and massacre of innocent Nigerians is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
The 2014 post has increasingly become a reference point for commentators and opposition figures amid growing concerns over banditry and terrorism nationwide.
Since the start of the year, several communities — particularly in northern Nigeria — have recorded deadly assaults.
On February 2, suspected Boko Haram fighters reportedly killed 17 people in Guzamala-Abbari village, affecting parts of Guzamala and Nganzai local government areas in Borno state.
A day later, bandits attacked Doma A and Doma B communities in Tafoki ward of Faskari LGA, Katsina state, leaving at least 20 people dead.
On February 4, gunmen described as terrorists struck Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama LGA of Kwara state, killing no fewer than 75 residents and burning several houses.
