In boosting girl-child education in Northwest Nigeria, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned the newly remodelled Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Maradun.
The project was executed under the COAS Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative.
Representing the COAS at the ceremony yesterday, the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Warrah Idris, stated that the Army views education as a strategic tool to address security challenges and build resilient communities.

The project was facilitated and executed by Major General Mamman Galadima, a native of Zamfara State.
The extensive renovation transformed the facility into a modern learning hub, with 36 classrooms completely refurbished to provide a conducive learning environment.
It also included modernised administrative offices and halls for school staff, as well as upgraded laboratories to support science education.
Additionally, the project implemented new roofing and other structural enhancements to improve the overall infrastructure and ensure student safety.
Galadima described the intervention as a “beacon of hope,” urging school authorities to preserve the facilities for future generations.
“Our mission is to create an environment where every girl-child can excel,” he added.
The initiative received widespread commendation from both local and state leaders for its alignment with broader educational objectives.
The Zamfara State Government, through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, noted that the project complemented the state’s ongoing efforts to revitalise the education sector.
Similarly, the school leadership expressed appreciation, with the Principal, Suwaiba Muhammad Nafaru, thanking Galadima for choosing GGDSS Maradun and highlighting the positive impact the project would have on students’ learning experience.
The traditional authority also lauded the initiative, as the Emir of Maradun, Alhaji Garba Tambari, described the project as an enduring legacy.
As a mark of appreciation, the Emir presented a horse to the Chief of Army Staff in a traditional gesture of goodwill.
