The Lagos State Government has launched the inaugural Eko Arts and Crafts Competition, an initiative designed to discover and nurture artistic talent among secondary and tertiary school students.
The programme aims to celebrate the state’s cultural identity and foster a new generation of creative entrepreneurs.

Speaking at a press briefing the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Damilola Ayinde-Marshal, explained that the competition is more than just a contest; it is a platform for mentorship, exhibitions, and potential partnerships.
She emphasised that the initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, which seeks to position Lagos as a cultural and entertainment hub.
Marshal also highlighted art’s role as a tool for storytelling and heritage preservation, stressing that by promoting arts and crafts, the government is safeguarding the state’s cultural wealth.
Registration for the competition is open exclusively to students in Lagos State secondary schools and tertiary institutions via a dedicated website.

Marshal expressed confidence that the competition will not only uncover hidden talents but also contribute significantly to the cultural and economic development of Lagos.
